Six Minutes to Freedom: Kurt Muse withQ. How did you pass the time in your cell?
A. I had quite a few routines that I stretched to fill a good part of my day. But, it's impossible to fill 24 hours a day with activities when you’re in a small, empty concrete room. Some days, I would sit in a corner of my cell and in my mind hike beautiful trails, experiencing all the wonderful wildlife and even resting from time to time by cool grassy meadows. It’s amazing where your mind will take you if you only let it.

Q. Knowing what you know now, would you do it again?

A. A lot of people ask that question. Believe me when I tell you that I simply don’t know.

Q. Do you harbor any ill will towards Betty Fernandez, the woman who turned you in?

A. It's a long story, but the bottom line is, I have finally forgiven her.

Q. What became of your confederates?

A. After the war five of the six anonymously returned to Panama and resumed their lives. The sixth found love in the States, got married and remains in Miami.

Q. What is Anne doing now?

A. She continues to work with the Department of Defense Schools, at their headquarters in Arlington, VA.

Q. What is Kimberly doing now?

A. Kimberly married her high school boyfriend immediately after graduation from James Madison University. She had a successful 8 year career in the pharmaceuticals industry before retiring to become a full-time mom for their three beautiful children.

Q. What is Erik doing now?

A. Like Kimberly, Erik also graduated from James Madison University. He is a regional manager for a medical equipment supply company.

Q. What are the Delta Operators who rescued you doing today?

A. All recovered from their wounds and returned to duty. Two are general officers and are still in the military. One former rescuer continues to work with the Unit as a contractor. Most, however, are contractors for companies doing great things to make our world a safer place. As a matter of fact, I'm now working with some of my former rescuers on the business development side of just such an endeavor.
